Delano Ames (1906-1987) was born in Mt. Vernon, Ohio. He attended Yale University and was married to the writer Maysie Grieg and later to Kit Woodward. He lived for many years in England, and died in Madrid. Ames is the creator of Dagobert and Jane Brown, a married couple of amateur sleuths, and of Juan Llorca, a sergeant in the Spanish Civil Guard.
