Charles B Child was the pseudonym of Claude Vernon Frost, a British mystery writer born in 1903. The Crime on the Heath was published in 1937 under the name C. Vernon Frost. As Child, he published a number of short stories featuring Inspector Chafik J Chafik of the Baghdad police. These stories, which appeared in Colliers Magazine beginning in 1947, were finally collected and published in 2002 under the title The Sleuth of Baghdad. He died in 1993.
