Finnegan, Robert

Page history last edited by PBworks 16 years, 1 month ago

Robert Finnegan was a pseudonym for Paul William Ryan (1906-1947), an American author who also wrote as Mike Quin. Finnegan's first two detective novels feature hardnosed San Francisco reporter Dan Banion. Finnegan was born in San Francisco and married Mary King O'Donnell in 1944. Finnegan was a sailor and shop worker who became an active journalist and broadcaster for the union movement. He was a member of the Communist party.

It is a tragedy that Banion, with his streak of social conscience, could not have appeared in a longer series. There have been too few writers as good as Finnegan. -- Melvyn Barnes.
