How does one classify a 'biography' of fictional characters? Thomson, a writer of Holmes pastiches, has collected together many studies and speculations relating to the lives of Holmes and Watson and spun them into a plausible joint biography. There is little that is original here, but newcomers to the Canon will find it to be a gentle introduction to the slightly barmy world of Doyle fan-fiction.
