Perowne, Barry

Page history last edited by J F Norris 5 years, 8 months ago

Barry Perowne was the pseudonym of Philip Atkey (1908-1985) a British writer who continued the A. J. Raffles series of E. W. Hornung. He was born in Redlynch Wiltshire and educated at Central School Oxford. In 1932 he married his cousin Marjorie Florence Atkey, the only daughter of his uncle, mystery writer Bertram Atkey. Perowne served in the British Army and the Intelligence Corps during WW2 before becoming a full-time writer.

Perowne using both his pseudonym and his legal name continued the adventures of his uncle's two series detectives Prosper Fair and Smiler Bunn in a brief series of stories which appeared in The Saint Mystery Magazine between 1960 and 1965. Four stories featured Prosper Fair while only two had Smiler Bunn.
