Carr, John Dickson and Adrian Conan Doyle -- The Exploits of Sherlock Holmes (1954)
Partly an exercise in applied nostalgia, partly an attempt to fill out the notebooks of Dr Watson by providing details of twelve mysteries which Holmes or Watson have mentioned in the other works but never described. These are introduced under other names, and the canonical reference is filled in at the end, though astute readers will have recognised most of them at that point. According to the Preface, JDC wrote two of the stories and contributed to four of the others before falling ill; the remainder were completed by Adrian Conan Doyle, who has done a fairly competent job: the only real indication of the change in authorship I could detect was an increasing reliance on Holmesian cliches towards the end of the book.
Holmes enthusiasts will enjoy the stories, although there is little genuine detection and some of the solutions strain credibility.
