Vance, Jack

John Holbrook (Jack) Vance was a prolific American writer of detective stories, fantasy novels and science fiction. He was born in San Francisco and educated at the University of California Berkeley. He married Norma Ingold in 1946. Vance also writes as Peter Held, John Holbrook, John Van See and Alan Wade. He contributed three ghostwritten books as 'Ellery Queen' during the 1960s and 70s. His series character was Sheriff Joe Bain.
