Bertus Aafjes' Een lampion voor een blinde (A Lantern for the Blind, 1973).
The only novella-length story in the series, set during Rangaku (Dutch learning), in which Judge Ooka has to escort an envoy from the Dutch enclave, Dejima, back to Edo – in order to pay their homage to the Shogun. However, the theft and destruction of an important document, a silent rivalry between two heelmeesters (surgeons) and a seemingly perfect murder makes it a bothersome journey for the judge.
