Lorac, ECR - Bats in the Belfry (1937)
Despite multiple murders, a mutilated corpse hidden behind a freshly plastered wall, and a group who begin the book by discussing the best way to conceal a body, this book manages to be dull, humdrum and boring. The characters have little individuality, the detective is competent but plodding and the case hinges on an inheritance that requires the presence of multiple cousins whose very existence is unknown to the victim. I agree with Nick Fuller that Lorac is decidedly pedestrian and forgettable.
