| Dr. Phyllis Eleanor Bentley (1894-1977) was born in Yorkshire and educated at Cheltenham Ladies' College. She was a teacher and did war work for the government in WW1 and WW2. Although mainly a 'straight' novelist she produced two works of crime fiction and a long series of short stories about Miss Phipps, an elderly investigator, which appeared in Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine between 1953 and 1976. |
