Herbert Brean (1907-1973) was born in Detroit but grew up in Vermont. As well as his criminous work he also worked as a journalist and wrote several how-to books. His short stories appeared in various mystery magazines. Brean served as president of the MWA in 1957. His series characters were William Deacon and Reynold Frame.
