Bruce, Leo - Death in Albert Park (1964)
Review by Nick Fuller
4/5
More interesting Bruce than usual with the late ones. Carolus Deene investigates a series of killings in the dank and dismal suburb of Albert Park by soaking up the atmosphere and conducting serial interviews. The story is tense and interesting throughout, and the reader wants to read on, as the story is continually moving forward. The sinister elements (the grotesque Heatherwell), the humour (the parody of Modernist plays), the scattering of suspicion and red herrings, and the variation (or re-use?) of Christie’s The ABC Murders are all excellent.
