Elspeth HuxleyElspeth Josceline Huxley, (1907-1997) nee Grant, was born in London but lived in Kenya from the age of five to eighteen. She was educated at the European School Nairobi and Reading University Berkshire, where she studied agriculture. She married Gervas Huxley, a grandson of Aldous Huxley, in 1931 and became a press officer and journalist for the BBC before farming in Wiltshire for fifteen years. Her best known books are chronicles of her Kenyan childhood. She also wrote non-fiction, including travel books. Her series character is Superintendent Vachell.
